Could someone tell me what foster parent standing is? I'll have it in a few weeks. I know standing would allow me to file an intervention on the current case, but the cw, her supervisor, the CASA rep, etc are doing everything by the book, and there doesn't appear to be a reason to do so. I don't want to be a baby stealer, but I'd be thrilled to be her forever parent if TPR occurs.
But does it mean I'll have the same rights as extended family if the parental rights are terminated? What else is gained from having standing?
As an aside, we are in the extension period of her case. No family has stepped forward in this case, no visits from the bio mom, no contact from anyone on the mother's family, and we're awaiting the results of the second potential bio dad DNA test. If he is the biodad, I'm preparing myself to say goodbye, but if not, I really want to adopt- we are in the extension period of her case.

I know in my state you have legal standing after you have had the child for 6 months or more. However your legal "standing" is still behind that of any biological family member no matter how remote. Foster parent legal standing doesn't really mean anything except that if no family member comes forward then you are supposed to be next in line. This standing does not give you any rights to make basic decisions for the child like cutting hair or taking them on vacation. You still have to ask permission for everything. In short you as a foster parent are just a "babysitter" unless you are lucky enough to be able to adopt the child.

I just came across your post today and wondered if you had been able to find anything out since you had posted? I'm sorry I don't have anything to offer but I hope it turned out well for both you and the child.
