Ok so just yesterday I got a 6 year old girl, foster placement only, She spent 2 weeks in the hospital before coming here for stabalization. Of course the first night here she had no meds because I had to get them filled.
I picked up meds today and she is taking Adderall in the morning then at night she is taking Intuniv and Seroquel.
Why does she need to be on two ADHD meds and why would she need to take one at night.
Supposedly she does not sleep well but I put her to bed last night at 8pm and never heard a peep out of her until 7am.
Does this seem normal to any of you?
I would welcome any advice that you have?
Thanks
We have had to use meds for some of our kids and based on that, I am thinking that the Guanfacine based med ,Intuniv, and the Seraquel both have drowsiness as a side effect. Enjoy your little girl.
Mom of 8 fabulous children, anxiously awaiting #9

not sure why 2 adhd meds - often wonder about that myself when I see it prescribed. My 9 year old takes Intuniv and he also gets it at night. Can't remember reason other than it is time release, not a stimulant and has somewhat of a sedating effect. He also gets seraquel and I can only wish he would sleep but even on those two or melatonin he still doesn't sleep.
In September we took L to the psychiatrist that originally put her on all 3 of these meds. Did not like her or her staff, she never once addressed L or asked her anything. So we got permission to change dr's. He asked me why she was on the Seroquel and at the time I did not know. He said that we might can take her off that.
Went today and told him that I was told she was on the Seroquel because the other dr had said she had Asperger's. Today he said he is sure that she does not have that and to take her off the Seroquel. So now we only have two meds.
 :D
Congratulations on your persistence and follow-through here. Commendable that you were able to help her get off one of the medications.
