Just wanted to give heads up to Indy Foster Parents who need to renew CPR/First Aid by end of year. Here is what I have found out the HARD way.
Since DCS is no longer contracting through Villages or Childrens Bureau, you have to take class through American Red Cross for it to be paid. There are coupon codes.
I have also found that between now and the end of the year there is only ONE class offered on Sept. 24th at an Indy location. All other Indianapolis Area classes are between 75-90 miles away.
If you cannot attend this one class basically your option is to find your own class. And pay for it yourself with NO reimbursement. These classes are usually between $60 and $110 per person, at least all the ones I found when searching internet. I've spent over 10 hours trying to figure this out and ended up cancelling going out of town so we could attend this one class. Our certificate will be expired by then.
I talked to Marion Cty DCS today and the homefinder suprivisor said that they would notify the State (who all training is now thru) of the situation and best hope at this time is that Red Cross may decide to add classes.
Notified our regions Training suprivisor who basically sent me a link to the in.gov/dcs website - training link and said that all classes are listed in the area available.
Just thought I would give other foster parents a heads up to what to expect.
Check with your health insurance. Mine paid for CPR and first aid as part of their continuing classes in health education. I could take it any where.

Who is your insurance carrier? We are with United Healthcare but I'll check into it. Thanks.
I believe that Nesting Notes usually list each month trainings either at Children's Bureau or Villages, in the past those were $20 . . . not bad at all. I did mine last time at the IFCA training conference in November.

Thats how we've always done it in the past too. But this option is NO LONGER available. There were several changes that went into effect July 1st and this was one.
Nesting Notes is no longer also it is called Resource Parent News. There will no longer be any training for DCS foster parents available thru Villages or Children's Bureau including CPR/First Aid.
I confirmed these changes. You can still take them anywhere like the conference you just have to pay. We just happened to be close to our annual renewal and all the changes are making it hard for us.
