I am a single, 33 yr old customs broker...born and raised in NY. Ive been very patient waiting for my Prince Charming, but recently decided that I dont need him to have my fairytale. Im leaving everything and moving to FL to make my dream of motherhood a reality. NY is too expensive to raise children (I'll be taking my current job with me and working from home) and all my family is in FL. I wouldnt think it fair to raise a child without any family support. My house is on the market and as soon as it sells I'm heading south where I will immediately begin the process of becoming a foster mother....with the hopes of eventually adopting.
Any and all advice would be appreciated. I have a million questions...questions that you cant find the answers to online, so if there is a single woman who has been though the foster/adoption process, whose brain I could pick, Id be forever grateful.
I would ask if your family in Florida is supportive and on board. It may be a surprise. Support of family or friends is a definite, no negotiable. I'm in PA and adopted through foster care as a single. Emotionally, time wise and logistically it can be difficult unless you have someone who can help out. I would encouage you to get in touch with the local foster support group, start with just one (not a sib set) and network. For me dating is not on the horizon and I'm OK with that but others may not be. It can be challenging, make sure you have support. It can be done, it can be fun - best wishes and good luck! Welcome to the forum and the wild ride that foster/adopt can be.
