I am 36 and was finally told on Sunday that I am adopted. I am working with Catholic Charities in Minnesota to get my brith family history. I always thought I was Irish but I guess I am Italian! Who knew. I guess I am trying to process this whole thing - how have other adult adoptees handled this. My adoptive parents know nothing about my birth family and basically their answer to where you gonna ever tell me (I found out on my own) was well we got you at a few days old and you were ours so whats the big deal. It is funny becuase they are in their 70s and back then people didnt talk about it. It is soooo strange! Any resources would be appreciated!

SMM, There have been a few "late discovery adoptees" on this forum but I can't think of any current posting members. If you google "late discovery adoptees" or "LDA" you might find some resources that match up with what you may be experiencing now or in the coming months. I would expect many things to be running through you mind - trust - feeling lied to - wanting to know your story. Just assume your feelings are normal because most likely they are. I don't know how to tell you to process the news because I have always known. Feel free to ask questions and perhaps we can answer them. Kind regards,Dickons

To both of you for your responses - I will definately start googling and see what resources I can find. Should be a interesting process!
