I am looking for some sort of product to help aa hair lie a little flatter when it's free. Something I could buy locally would be ideal. Has anyone used any mousses and how did it turn out?
I've always used Mousse in my own hair to give it body...not sure that would really help with free AA hair...
I've been buying at Ulta:hair rules, Kinky curling cream. The lady at Ulta told me its similar to Carol*s Daughter*s products. I love it for S's hair, it calms the frizzes and kept her free hair looking good this weekend. :) I haven't bought CD products yet because they are pricey and I hate paying for shipping, crazy I know.

I use the Shine somethingerother products from Walmart/cvs/walgreens -- wherever on DS. I like the mousse. It comes in a hot pink can. I certainly don't use it everyday though. I really like their gel for getting hair to be less poofy. Its blue. None of that is probably helpful to you based on my total lack of spefics.
Mouse with alcohol is drying but the one I reccomended does not have alcohol. Either does the gel. Personally, I would try gel rather than mousse but I know that mousse works differently on DS's hair than it would on mine.

Thanks people!! K, your kid's hair is sooo beautiful all the time so I'll be looking for that stuff. I've been underwhelmed by cd for my girls but if you want to try it, some of their products are available at Sephora stores and now our JC penney's has a Sephora right inside.
Nevada Jen, I'll be on the lookout for "shine" products next time I go in walmart.
Hey nickchris, what do you think about the gel then?
Just wanted to tell you... I got the hair rules product recommended by KLLO8.
It worked better than anything else I've used, and here is a picture of Athena after I washed her hair and applied that stuff. Unfortunately after a few hours her hair got tangly and was sticking straight up in the air, so I had to keep putting that on and recombing, which started to be aggravating to her after a while. :)
The next day I put in this style which came out cute and only took a little over 30 minutes to do. I guess we just can't have free hair around here.
Thanks again for the advice. Nevada, I never did find that stuff you were talking about but I'll keep looking.
I sometimes use a bit of gel on my damp hair to smooth the edges for a pulled back bun style etc; Kinky Curly has a gel that I also use sparingly.
Beautiful!! Love her curls...yeah we don't wear free hair for more than a day around our house yet either. S is too busy and rolls around in everything. Love the twists in her hair! I gotta find some snaps to use on S like those, super cute!!
