We're in the process of adopting Baby J. His mom relinquished a couple months ago. At the first TPR hearing for the dad, the dad told the judge that he was willing to relinquish too, had always been willing to relinquish, knew he couldn't parent with his track record, blah blah blah. So the judge decided to proceed with the hearing but assigned him a public defender and gave him the papers to sign. It's been 3 weeks and NOTHING! I assume he's not signed yet but maybe he has and the news hasn't filtered down to me. I am in touch with Baby J's cw and she doesn't know anything either yet. Last week, I got word that he will sign IF he gets a letter from me detailing all the milestones Baby J has hit and how many teeth he has, words he's saying, etc. I immediately emailed a letter to the cw so she could pass it on to him. I'm irritated that he didn't just sign papers in court when we were there. Irritated that he's dilly-dallying around now and trying to bargain. This man is in prison. He's a pedophile. There are so many reasons he should never be allowed to parent ever again. Anyone else BTDT? We are so READY to have the adoption finalized and know that he's permanently safe with us.

We went through this, also. We were told that the birth parents were going to do a voluntary relinquishment, it took 10 months for them to actually sign and they didn't sign until a couple of days before the termination hearing. There was also a lot of trying to negotiate more and more open adoption contact, birth dad is also in jail and due to circumstances could NEVER, EVER parent even IF he did get out of jail. All that said they did finally sign and we finalized the adoption of our precious girl almost two weeks ago. Good luck to you, and congrats on your forever family!!
