What's a good product to help with the itching and reducing the bumps/patches of eczema? My son is three, and he's pretty much always had eczema, but now that he's older, he seems more aware of it and complains of it itching. He also scratches, sometimes until it bleeds. :( I've put hydrocortizone on the patches (doctor recommended that), and I keep his skin moisturized with a shea butter lotion. He has allergies - to peanuts and soy (just learned about the soy), and seasonal/environmental. So, I know the allergies contribute to the eczema, and I'm hoping we can reduce the eczema occuring. But he's probably always going to have it, so I would like to at least minimize the discomfort.

I also have eczema. I find that I can keep it from coming up most of the time by keeping moist enough. I don't use any kind of lotion, but go straight for the oils. I've found that for me sweet almond oil works best (straight, not mixed with anything. I've also used coconut oil, and that's what I use daily on my son to keep his skin moisturized, I have a friend who uses avocado oil - I think different people respond better to different ones, but plain oil, not mixed with anything, seems to do really well for everyone I know.

I use California Baby's Calendula cream on my 20 month old. I have found that if I bathe her in anything, ANYTHING it makes her eczema just ugly. :( I had been putting a tiny bit of California Baby bubble bath in the tub, but then her eczema just would be red and angry. So now it is just warm water...and if she is really dirty I just have to wash a tad harder with the wash cloth.
I have recently started using Aveeno Baby lotion, and have not noticed her eczema flair, and seeing as how it's cheaper...we will stick with it if the itchies stay at bay.
I use Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Original Moisturizing Creme for DD's flare ups. It comes in a 16oz 'tub' (not a squeeze tube) and has the consistency of peanut butter. I put it on and sometimes even put gauze over the site so that the stuff doesn't rub off. You could also try putting baby oil in the bath tub when bathing.
we use cetaphil lotion daily after bath when the skin is still moist. When ds has outbreaks, we use it twice a day. i found that cetaphil has neither alcohol, nor parabens, nor mineral oil which are all bad for eczema! his skin is just beautiful now, and we rarely ever have outbreaks. he is 4 1/2. when he had outbreaks, i would also put a cup of rolled oats into his bathwater, no soap, just oats. it desolves somewhat and really soothes the skin. i would put the wet, soaked oats in my hand and smooth it all over his skin (the soaked oats get almost a little slimy, but not nasty slimy). you should also bathe your child every day, as that actually moisturizes the skin. but don't use too much soap, only to wash the dirty areas :)dove soap is very mild and i use it when i run out of the baby soap my mom sends me from germany.

Chromakelly, that sounds awful! I have had lots of skin allergies, myself and lots of eczema, especially as a kid. I remember how it itched and how annoying and painful it could be. Sometimes, scratching until it bled felt better than the awful itch. It wasn't until I was 19, that I found Kenalog lotion, which I would put on several times a day, and it helped immensely. I think they still make it. It is something like hydrocortizone, but worked a lot better. Fortunately, as I got older, I had less trouble with it. Since about my late 30s, I have even been able to get detergent on my hands, for a little while, without breaking out. I hope your son's gets better as he gets older, too.My biracial son had pretty bad dry skin/eczema. One thing that helped with him, was to put a little bit of Eucerin cream of it when it was wet. You can overdo it, with Eucerin cream, but a little bit of it works very well. I couldn't use anything with the slightest bit of fragrance on his skin, or in his bath water. Until he was about a year old, I bathed him in warm water, with a very clean, detergent-free washcloth. Anything else broke him out badly. When he was a little older, I could use a little bit of unscented soap, but had to be careful not to use too much. I also washed everything his skin touched, his clothes, blankets and sheets, and my tops, in soap flakes, rather than detergent. With something, like diapers, that were very dirty, I washed them in a whole cycle, with detergent, then another, with soap flakes, to get the detergent residue out.My AA son had dry skin, not as bad as his brother's, but it really showed on his very dark skin. I found Steven's Cream, while he was a baby, and used it on him and also my biracial daughter, along with Eucerin cream. When my kids got old enough to fight me on it, they did. It was a constant struggle to keep them from looking like urchins, with alligator skin. Fortunately, when they got to be about 12 or 13, they each decided they didn't want dry skin anymore and they started moisturizing their own skin. Their collective favorite is Malibu Hemp lotion.
Both of my boys have eczema and allergies. I have noticed that their eczema flares up more in the high allergy season so we also give them Zyrtec daily during that time and it really helps. We also have a prescription hydrocortisone cream for our baby and a steroid cream for my older son to use if it gets really bad. But, we haven't had to use either one for awhile. Our dermatologist recommends bathing daily, which was opposite to what I thought! It really helps. We also use Eucerin and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
My son has been undergoing allergy testing and just today, I got the results that he is allergic to most tree nuts. It dawned on me that his soap and moisturizer is probably not helping matters, as they contain shea and coconut oil/butter! I feel awful that I've been putting stuff on him that's making it worse. I've been trying to use more natural products, but most of that has some type of nut oil in it. Time to shop for new products.

Hi im Jeff, 22 years of age and im suffering from Eczema disease on my hands and arms. It goes for a while but it comes back infected and inflamed. I always looked around me and saw other people's hands and arms in perfect condition. I can remember whwn I was bullied so much in Secondary School because of my Eczema and I was treated like dirt. From my own experience I learned that there is no quick fix for eczema. To reverse eczema you must address the causes of the disease. The causes of eczema can be our genetic state, our nutritional history, and/or the toxic burden we are faced with from our foods and our living and working environments.I was looking on the internet for some natural remedy to relieve Eczema and I found some Eczema Free Forever - How to Cure Eczema Easily, Naturally and Forever here. I only tried it for 6 days and I saw a huge improvement on my eczema. This morning I woke up with none of the normal red blotchy dry skin on my hands that I used to wakes up with every morning.

Hey chroma... that's too bad. Sounds like my Kee actually because he is also allergic (the highest level of severity) to peanuts and tree nuts. He has a lower level allergy to milk and soy also. We've had bad problems with eczema and his little arms and legs have nasty looking scarred areas which I am hoping will start to fade. It's probably from the scratching.
I wanted to mention a couple things. First of all you have to watch those lotions and creams because that is a source of nut proteins and I was not aware of that. Also certain tomato based products like marinara can have nut products in them.
Oh and someone mentioned almond butter... obviously you have to avoid that.
I like the carol's daughter stuff for hair but there are a lot of hazelnut and other nut names in the products although I don't know if she actually puts that in it or not.
We were briefly using some of a johnson's baby bath stuff we had and that set his eczema off quite badly. We switched back to the aveeno baby bath and it's starting to improve just a little. Also the detergents.. we can only use the "free" unscented ones. (Like cheer or tide free.) I used to love the smell of tide but he can't have that at all.
Used to use aquaphor but I don't think it did any better than the aveeno baby eczema therapy cream and the latter is much easier to apply and nicer to use.
Lastly coconuts are not actually nuts and should be ok.
I hope the little guy gets better soon!!! :)
PS Kee almost gave me a heart attack a while back when he almost got ahold of my coffee with coffeemate hazelnut cream in it... and when I checked that it didn't actually have any nut product in it at all. :)
