Elf on the shelf has a dark skinned elf. I'm posting this because I already got ours. Last year we missed out on it because they go really quickly. I also got each the kids their own plushee pals that they can play with and hopefully they will keep the kids on their best behavior. I was worried that the scout elf might come up missing. LOL

I've got my eye on some ethnic dolls but I'm not going to post anything about them until we have ours secured. LOL

Oh, she's very cute! DD has enough dolls at this point... so she's safe. At least from me! lolI'm at a complete loss on Christmas gifts this year. I'm thinking about an XBox to do those dance video things.. My friend has the Michael Jackson game and it is SOOOOOO much fun. I'm thinking that may be a gift for the both of us. She's still going strong on her VReader, so I don't think the VReader IPad (not the official name) is necessary.I got all my Christmas ideas from this site last year... I'm just waiting on someone to start a thread. :)
I believe they have it for Wii and XBox... I don't have either, so I have a techy friend figuring out which would be best for me.
Speaking of MJ, I just bought tix to the Cirque Du Soleil Immortal tour. DD is only 4, but a huge MJ fan, she is going to go ballistic hearing all the music and seeing the spectacle of it all.

Oops! my bad. If you cannot find a particular one, I can get and hold another or two.

My kids love MJ too. What is it? I think DH bought the dance video for the Wii. He went out shopping Friday night to pick up things for the kids. I still don't know what he's bought because the kids are stuck to me like glue.
Did you catch the Elf on the Shelf tv special? It was pretty cute. I'm glad they waited until they had a more diverse elf grouping before doing the cartoon.
re Heart 4 Hearts Rahel from Ethiopia : TargetI was surprised when I clicked through... my area has one of the largest expat Ethiopian groups in the country, and their skin tone looks nothing like that doll to me. The doll to me looks like a white person with cocoa added, very pink. Most Ethiopian people appear to me to have a lot of yellow tone in their complexion. All of which may be irrelevant, and she is cute.

Really? I have seen darker skinned Ethiopians as well. Feature wise, big eyes, and her nose has a cute roundness to it, kind of reminds me of my DDs nose. One of the reasons why I purchased it. Also Africa is a place of the most diversity, due to the ancient origins of the populations. Lots of variety in the physical traits (skin tone, hair, and features) and DNA wise. Therefore, it is not unusual to see the yellower under toned skin hues you are noticing, and the darker tone that I have seen. ;-)Pictures: Photos of EthiopiaEthiopian people
You know, it's really interesting, before posting, trying to remember seeing darker-skinned Ethiopian women in my area, and I could not. I have to go totally on the lookout now, heh. Have seen some light eyes, thinner noses, yellow-toned skin. I've seen men who were a little darker. Africa as a whole, yes, totally different body types, colors, facial features, facial shapes....
Don't hold your breath looking for a doll that will match the variety of black skintones. Most you can hope for is light brown or dark brown. From what I can figure is they use the same mixture of plastic as the CC dolls and dump some dark brown pigment in it and call it a day. What I find funny is when they have mix-ups and tint the plastic body mix but use the exact same paint for eye color, blush and lips that they use on the CC dolls.
I can't remember if I posted it or not but there is a blogger who shows how to change the hair texture on AA dolls that have straight hair. Pretty simple... a doll version of a curly perm. Pipe cleaners and hot water.
I see mostly darker Ethiopians in the Atlanta area. The lighter people tend to be from Somalia or Cape Verde.
Cuz this is just fascinating.. and great stuff to tell the kiddos. :)Seems except for those who are not in tune to DNA do not tell these Horn of Africa people that they are mixed with European. They consider them-self non mixed African, or minimally mixed. I also see a similarity to the bone structure in the unwrapped Egyptian pharaoh mummies. The protrusion of the teeth, aka bucked teeth. Somalis:BBC News - Somali refugees stranded in DjiboutiI know an Ethiopian who looks similar (down to the hair ringlets) to the Rahel doll. Not solely related to the Horn folks, but I have seen the tall, long limbed, slim body type with the elongated face, features etc; in some AA people too. Always made me wonder which "tribe".
