My daughter is 5 and a half, and she loves when we read her chapter books about kids in real situations (i.e. her favorite book series now is Ivy and Bean, about two friends in second grade and the trouble they get into). But Ivy and Bean are both white. Does anyone have any good recommendations for good age-appropriate books like this with non-CC main characters? She's Hispanic so I'd love to find something with Hispanic characters, but really I'll take anything. :) Thanks!

Know this isn't exactly what you asked for, but I love this book. Many Thousand Gone: African Americans from Slavery to Freedom by Virginia Hamilton. (Great price on Amazon (used). Love the illustrations, love the presentations as stories. I use this book with children of all colors and foreign students alike.

My daughter is 6 and also loves chapter books. We have found a series of 4-5 books about a character named Anna Hibiscus. Anna is a biracial little girl. Her daddy is AA from Africa and her mother is CC from Canada. Anna lives with her parents, twin baby brothers Double and Trouble and all of her extended family in Africa. It's full of African traditions, names and events. We really enjoy reading these fun stories.
Bumping up my own thread to recommend this: Amazon.com: Ruby and the Booker Boys #1: Brand New School, Brave New Ruby (9780545017602): Derrick Barnes, Vanessa Brantley Newton: Books I was really glad to find this series. I got the first one from Amazon and A loved it and is excited to get the rest.
