Well at this point I really just did a million very thin 2 stranded twists. On eof the boys in his class is working on a set of locs and his mom told me how she did it. The whole family was there and they all have great looking hair and appear to be upper middle class. So I feel good that the style is appropriate. It took 7 hours. And at hour 5 I called in a friend to help! They kind of look like dead snakes at this point but I am going to pretend I don't notice that!
Once upon a time, I did the top of my youngest son's VERY tightly coiled hair like that, only it sounds like the twists you did are a little bit thinner than the ones I did. I cut the sides and back real short. I did this when he was about nine or ten. He loved it and so did I. His dad and, especially, his step-mother hated it, probably not because they didn't think it looked good but just because I did it. One day, after he had been with them a few days, he came home with it all buzzed off. To say that I was annoyed that they would make him let them cut it off without even asking me would be an understatement! We never got back to doing it again. How old is your son? I have seen some locks that aren't taken care of, that don't look good, but they can also look really cute! I'd love to see a picture of your son's!

Well, I am not sure I am going to be able to get them to take. He is a spring board diver and I only have until tuesday before he has to dive again. Wondering if I can put little rubberbands on the bottom just for diving? He doesn't have much texture in his hair at all (less than me and I am white). I think the only thing making them stay in is the many pounds of loc gel I used. Pretty sure that will wash out when he dives.
If you used loc'ing wax, you should be ok for him diving :) (We have a family member who had beautiful foot long tiny locs!)
I would love to see a pictures. I love the look of small locs. I would totally do it if J wants them when he is older.
