FD is teething, and subsequently is biting EVERYTHING. Including the end of her wood crib. It now has small sections of finish gnawed off of it and teeth marks in it and looks horrible. I can't begin to imagine what the bits of wood are doing to her insides. And, I don't want her to move on to other furniture, either.
Anyone have an idea of how to prevent her from chewing on the furniture? I could also use some thoughts on how to stop her from chomping on my shoulder... ;)
Hello!
If there is a BabysRUs, Target, or WalMart near you, they make something called crib rail teethers. It's a strip of silicon I think, that sticks to the crib rails and will protect the crib, but most importantly will protect baby's teeth.
They are relatively inexpensive and the material is made to just self stick to the crib railings - so there will be no permanent markings on the crib.
I hope this helps you out!

My DD did the same thing, her crib looks like a hyena went at it.
We have let her chew on toothbrushes, which seemed to help A LOT. We have a few of the infant "brushes" that are basically toothbrushes, with out the bristles....just little nubby plastic.
For snacks, I give frozen peas, frozen berries, and frozen yogurt (the kids' squeezable yogurt, I just throw in the freezer).
We also dose her with acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Doc told us you can do one, then four hours later the other. Teething gels don't work, and they have come out with studies saying they are harmful.
As for biting YOU? Oh boy. We went through that BIG TIME. I had bite marks on me for months! I don't know if she outgrew it, or it was my reaction, but it was about four months before she stopped it completely.
Sometimes, caught off guard I would scream, which would scare her. Most times, I could tell when it was coming (she kind of growled, and opened wide...lol), so I just redirected her. Gave her a toothbrush, or whatever was around that was safe for her to chomp. If she got me and I wasn't completely shocked and in pain, I immediately said "NO BITE!" and put her down. She did not like being put down one bit. Even the tiniest of teeth grazes, and she would be put down. We did the same thing with hitting. It really got her attention. :)
Best wishes to you, the biting was a hard phase to go through (and comes back when she's really stressed or ticked off).
Thank you for the responses! I am definitely going to look into the crib rail teethers. I didn't realize they came in adhesive strips (my mind saw the plastic pop-on version they used to have, and that wouldn't have worked on the thicker ends of the crib where she chews).
We have tons of "chewy" teething toys around (just not in her crib), and we do the acetaminophen per her doctor's recommendation. I have a natural orajel that I occasionally give her (also dr okayed) when she needs fast relief (usually in middle of naps/sleep time).
The couple of times she's gotten a good bite in to the shoulder (and one to the leg - she's toddling around too, so right height to hang onto an adult leg), I've let out a semi-loud "ouch". It startled her, she cried for about 2 seconds, and it was some time before I got another bite (like a day or two). When I notice her putting her face toward my shoulder or leg now, I have started to try redirecting her (to a teething toy usually). She's not a fan of frozen items, though. I'll probably just have to hang on a few more weeks doing what I've been doing, until the 2 teeth that are currently coming in finish their journey.
Thanks a lot for the answers!
This chewing everything around seems to drive me mad soon!
Hope your advice work, I'll try this)
