Well, on some levels I guess all of us are running out of time every moment. But I hardly think either of you, let alone the two of you together, are in any way too old to adopt.
Most of the people I know who have adopted were near if not past 40. (At least half past 40.)
Some agencies, some workers, and/or some birthmoms may see your wife's age as a negative. Same with the combination of your ages. And with your wife not being a SAHM. And even with the dogs. But most likely some agency, some worker, some birthmom will think the two of you and the home you can offer together to a child are just right.
I'd encourage you to give consideration to a slightly older child or to international adoption.
