My husband and I follow the Church's teaching on family planning and use NFP (natural family planning). We would really like to begin the adoption process but are extremely worried about becoming pregnant.
We started an adoption 3 years ago after 3 years of infertility and just as we began the process we became pregnant with our first child. Our agency cancelled the adoption.
Have any of you run into the same problem? Are there agencies and/or countries which allow you to adopt when pregnant? I've found that most agency's policies are very strict and some suggest contraceptive use.
Although we know that it is not ideal to bring a biological child into this world at the same time as an adoptive child, we cannot be certain that NFP will prevent a pregnancy during the entire adoptive process.
Please PM me if you have any agency specific info.
Thank you.
If it were me, I'd consider abstaining totally once I was past a certain point in the adoption process. What that point is becomes a point for you to decide, of course. Consider it, perhaps, as a sacrifce and offer it up for the sake of the baby. :)

Although it's a scary thought, as long as you are vigilent at following your plan you can't let it run your life. If you are supposed to adopt then God will allow it to happen. Pray about it and allow God to guide the both of you to do what is right. In the end things are going to work out for the better, no matter what happens. Obviously it wasn't the right time for you to adopt before, but maybe now is. And since you guys are doing NFP and it's been working for 3 years thus far from the sounds of it, I wouldn't be too conerned.
Good luck :)
