At our orientation we were told it would take 6- 12 months to complete Pride Training, background checks, Licencing and the Home study. Now were learning that we don't get added to the home study wait list until pride classes are done and your licensed. Waiting to get a home study worker assigned is taking 6-12 months in San Diego county. Then there are taking up to a year to even have a child placed in your home. Is that accurate? Wait 2 years just to get your first placement seems a little crazy. How long did it take you from Pride classes to your first placement?
They did mention there are trying to change it so that you can take placements after your are licensed instead o f waiting until Homestudy is done too. Anyone else hear this?

Have any of you taken the "Options for Recovery" class for drug addicted newborns and HIV positive newborns? We are wait listed for the September class but will be in the November class for sure.
Also are any of you going to do regular foster care while you wait to be matched for adoption?

Have you been able to Submit your homestudy for any potential matches yet? How does the process actually work to get matched for adoption only placements?

I honestly don't even know what that means, to "submit your homestudy". I have found this process to be opaque and mysterious. I don't know how matching works. I asked one of the social workers and she told me it was "magic". I am not making that up, that was the actual word she used for it, that's a quote. So I have no idea how matching works. If anyone knows, please enlighten me!

Hey just seeing how you are all doing.
We had a few hiccups with getting licence. First they lost both our Health evaluation paperwork so we had to re do all that. Then we had to wait for our out of state background checks to come back from our previous state. then lastly we had to get approval to foster on our military base. So I finally got the approval for that so we should have our licence issued next week. :-) I was surprised to find that we were assigned an Adoptions worker already and she sent us our financial statements and background questionnaires to us already. The letter included says as soon as we return those items we will have our initial interview already! How soon after the first meeting did you start the home study interviews? I am surprised how quickly everything is moving its only been 4 months since we went to orientation. I am hoping that means their back log has worked itself out and it will be smooth sailing the rest of the way.
Anusha15 That is great news that everything seems to be moving along nicely now for you! We had individual our interviews scheduled for the next week after out initial meeting with the adoption worker and our last interview with her was done about 2 weeks after that. This was all done back in March though and we are still waiting on the homestudy to be ready. We were recently told that we had been assigned a new adoptions worker because our original one was no longer with the county. Maybe that is why it has taken a while for us to get through this part, I'm not sure but our new adoptions worker told us it should be about another month before it is all done. I hope things continue to be smooth sailing for you from here on out! Good luck!

So we were expecting a couple months wait for our homestudy to start but we just got a call from our worker and we start our first interview in 2 weeks!! This is so unexpected! Its only been a little over 4 months since we went to orientation. We must have chosen the perfect time to start every thing since we have not really suffered any major wait times for anything.

That's great news!! Hoping you get the call for a placement soon. Good Luck.
We moved this past fall, but completed our Adoption homestudy requirements a month after moving in to our new place. We don't have an approval letter from Adoptions yet though...our SW hopefully has submitted it for approval. We've already given her our written profile.
Happy Holidays everyone!!

Well I wanted to update this thread since my last post...basically we had to switch social workers as our home study had not been completed as we thought. Our file was fine, but the staffing issues with the county delayed our approval. Once we switched workers, things changed!
Our HS was approved in February of this year, and over the summer we released it to neighboring counties as recommended by our new worker. It worked!!! One month after our release Riverside county called with a match. An infant girl who also has a 2-year old brother whom we may be able to adopt too.
TPR is scheduled for next month, as they are no longer offering the bio parents reunification services.
