Hi Everyone,
I want to share a story that might give some encouragement and hope for those of you who have children where the tribe has intervened.
We were a concurrent home and received a call that our daughter was born. We were so excited!!! We got to visit her in the NICU for a couple days, she had such a high amount of Meth in her system and she was fighting to live, and bond before we were able to take her home. The Mother had three other children that she did not have and a history of severe drug abuse. After meeting her she fell in love with our family and decided to waive her right to reunification services. Our daughters father is Cherokee Nation enrolled and after months they decided to intervene. They wanted her to be removed from us and placed with an indian family. We fought them, we hired our own lawyer, also filed defacto parent status. After two hearings, WE WON!!!!
It helped that we are very open and had the half siblings over at the house all the time. I know that everyone is so fearful when a tribe is involved, our adoption worker would call so discouraged that she had never seen the tribe lose, I would have to reassure her to have some faith and that God is in control. I knew she was meant to be our daughter and I was not about to accept her leaving us without a fight!! We are now passed the 60 day appeal period and no appeals were filed, thank God!!! SO I CAN SHARE MY HOPE WITH ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!! We are now waiting for the finalization date!!! The tribes are powerful but there is one greater!!!
Mother is again 6 months pregnant with another girl and we would be honored to add her to our family as well!!! She is full blooded to our daughter and they will only be a year apart.
