When my daughter was adopted I went to Social Security and got her a new number. I knew she had an old number but I was afraid her mother would mess with her credit later so I got a new one. I told them I wasn't sure about the number. They asked me if she got an benefits and I said no but I think the subsidy and medical card is what they were talking about. Now the doctor is saying ADHD and I need to give them her social security number. Because of all the druggies they have to verify her before the prescription. Which number should I give the doctor? I've noticed her old name and number are still on her payment vouchers. I don't want to call SSA because I don't want to have to go back to that old number. So anybody know anything about this?
All 4 of mine have been on meds; I was not able to change ss numbers for any of them. And the doctor should not need her ss number, juat her medical insurance/Medicaid card. Was it an adoption from foster care?

yea from foster. They need the ssn because of the druggies. The state has a data base to keep track of who is getting the medication. You can't get it without doing through the data base.
When you got the new number, the old one became null and void. The stuff from the state contains her old info because that is what they have--unless you provided the new. It may also just be how it's done.
If you use the old ssn, you'll be using a number that is not in use.
Just give the doc the right number. You have nothing to hide. Lots of people legitimately use adhd meds.
Second greenrobin.....but along with that, I'd be sure to contact the medical people who are still using the old number and name. If your child is completely adopted, that old stuff should not be in use. It could easily cause problems for her in the future.
Sincerely,
Linny
By using her SSN issued at birth, you will be setting off a Fraud alert. This is a big issue of identity theft, and a real mess to clear up. It is best to use the "new" one. You must act like the "old" one never exsisted.
Contact your state adoption subsidy office, and have them update all the records.
You have nothing to be afraid of :)
