My husband and I start our classes for foster to adopt. I have read different stories relating to past records. My husband has a charge and I don't know if it is a felony or misdemeanor from a little over 20 years ago when he decided to act stupid. (I tell him that all the time) Well he has change his life around especially since this happen because I flat out told him if he went to jail he would never get a visit from me and at the time I was 4 months pregnant. Even though this happened over a little over 20 years ago will this disqualify us from getting licensed. I planned on telling the worker I just don't want any unexpected surprises.
Be honest about it. If it doesn't involve violence towards a child, it might not automatically disqualify you. If you try to hide it, that would definitely disqualify you.

I think I read somewhere that someone had to sign a waiver if it gets kicked back? I would definetly not withhold anything b/c they will find out everything. Sometimes it may not even show up though if it was a misdeamnor, but to be safe, I'd mention it anyways. Good luck!!!
Id be honest as well. A felony here could very well disqualify you depending on what it was. Especially if it has to do with assault, children, or drugs.
Be honest. It should be public, epecially if it's a felony. Try googling his name and see what comes up.
My Dh had a possession charge 20 years ago that never went to conviction. It was cont without a finding and supposedly not even on his record. He now a has 18 years in recovery and when we first started he had to write up a request for an exception (we are in CA) He got it and we adoptrd our now 9 year old twin daughters. We are about to become certified again. Our adoption social worker told us it really only mattered if it was against kids or it involved physical or sexual abuse of another(adult or kid). Everyone makes mistakes its how we learn from them that matters. Good Luck !

Thank you all. This helps a lot and I planned on letting the case worker know when it came time. It was for breaking in and attempt burglar. Its stupid really and I wish the charges were dropped. He helped a friend move out of his aunts house and my husband along with 2 other guys helped. The kid told them what to move and they did and it turned out it was the Aunts and Uncles things. The kid confessed and it helped. I think they dropped the charge of breaking in because the kid had a key. I just want to be as open as possible and I would hate for this to prevent me and DH from moving forward.
