I started my 8 year old on Intuniv and he's doing well around the house and focusing at school; problem is that he's still getting into fights during recess/lunch time. I was instructed to dose him at night, but one night I forgot and gave it to him in the morning. When I picked him up from school, he seemed more subdued, but also did not get into any fights! I'm wondering if I should switch to a.m. Any thoughts?

is this the only drug your child takes?
mine was on a combo of Focalyn and Intuniv. the Intuniv was to help smooth out the end of the day and help him sleep--so the subdued nature may well have been from that.
now Bubba takes Kapvay in the a.m. along with Vyvanse to help with ADHD and his impulsivity. it does a good job. Kapvay doesn't seem to make him tired.
i'd talk to your doc about your son's continued behavioral issues and see what they can or want to do.

I've been resisting the methylphenidates -- he is a skinny little kid and I don't like the side effects. He never did have a problem sleeping, and his doctor said to give it in the evening so he doesn't get too tired during the day. It's been great in every other respect so I'd rather just tinker with the dose and/or time it's administered. I just spoke to a colleague who gives his son intuniv in the am and does not have a problem with it, so I think I'll try that.
So how do you all afford this? The doctor gave me a coupon for the first rx, but when I went to get it refilled, they told me it would be $127 for the month!!! I called back the doctor and they said they'd do an override, but that it would take 48 hours. He went over the weekend without it, and it was like ADHD on steroids!!!
My son uses Intuniv and we went to the website and it has coupon for $115 off a month for a year. you have to sign up for it.

The medical card in IL will not cover it even if you appeal.
He takes 4mg (mg I think) and it took trial and error for us to find the right dose. He takes it the night before and it lasts almost exactly 24 hrs. a
It has been a miracle for us and it took a while for it to work. They usually pair it with methafidate but we resisted it and he doesn't require it at this time.

here the Medicaid does cover it, although i've heard from the p-doc that some folks are having a hard time getting it.
we just go to the pharmacy. the cost before insurance is outrageous. i have NO idea how we'll afford all of the stuff that our kids need if Medicaid decides they won't cover it.
Well the whole thing is very confusing to me. I paid $15 with the coupon for the first month's supply of 1 mg where the price was supposed to remain constant throughout the year. When I called the Dr.'s office regarding the cost of the refill, they did an "override" which takes 48 hours. They were supposed to give me 1 mg again so I could dose him once in the evening, then again in the am. Unfortunately the office called in an rx for a month's supply of 2mg by mistake (and I can't split them) so I asked the pharmacist if they could fill the 1 mg instead, and he said I'd have to pay full price for that but the 2mg I could have for free! I took what I could get, but I'm going to have to continue dosing him at night until we get this straightened out. Big Pharma-- grrrr!
