My name is Bob Rhea. I was born on July 7, 1962 in Bristol, TN. My birth name was Wayne Edward ? (last name unknown). I was adopted when I was approximately 8 weeks old by the Rhea family of Castlewood, VA.
I know a little about my birth mother. She was 20 years old when she gave birth to me. She was the oldest child in a fairly large family. She worked as a waitress at a local restaurant in the Bristol area. My father was also supposedly employed at this restaurant.
I am just trying to find out a little more information about my birth mother and father or possibly other extended family members.
Thank you in advance for sharing any information which might help me on my journey.
Hey Bob, I read your post and wanted to offer what may be a long shot.
At some point you were adopted and the state has a record of that. If the records are sealed a last name may be considered identifying and is not forwarded.
My suggestion would be to contact the court where your adoption was finalized to see what information is held within the court records. The info regarding the names may be held in the Adoption Decree.
Usually, it is only information regarding what the court did at that hearing. There is no personal information relating to the individuals involved.
The Clerk of the Court, ( it may be called the Adoption Court, or the Court of Common Pleas) can provide information on how you can get the info you seek.
They may require state forms which can be mailed to you and are free.
There are no guarantees that because you file the correct forms, that you will get the info, but it's worth a try. The Clerk of the Court will not provide legal advice, but may work with you to define what info you can have if your state has sealed records.
I wish you the best.
