We are considering adopting our 13 yo FD. Her name is spelled very odd. We talked about dropping 1 letter from her name if we adopt her. She is good with that cuz that extra letter makes people pronounce it wrong. Would we be able to do this at adoption hearing and is it expensive?
They should do this with all of the adoptive placement paperwork if it is to be done at adoption.

It doesn't cost any more if you do it during the adoption itself. If you wait, it costs a couple hundred dollars and another court hearing (short and sweet and easy, but....).
Great, thanks!! The County we would be adopting thru pays for all the court costs so there would be no upfront fees for us. I was wondering/hoping they could include that. I figure if she will be getting a last name change, this shouldn't be a big deal to change the spelling of the first name either. So that's good to hear it wouldn't cost more. This way, she'll be getting a fresh start with a new last name, and the spelling of the first name would be like a fresh start too... only with the name actually being the same (if all that babble just made sense). :)
