I got a message this week from CPS caseworker stating that she hopes after a special hearing to be able to tell me when she will bring the child to us. Is it standard procedure for CPS to bring a child to their out of state placement? I was assuming we would need to travel to pick her up.
Well baby girl is in a group home and not with a foster family, or at least that's what I was told. We aren't actual relatives but rather the adoptive family of her bio siblings so they wouldn't have any reason to think we weren't an appropriate place or are anything like bio mom.
I was sort of hoping to go pick her up just so I could ask about her routines, etc and so she and I could have a few days to work on attachment before bringing her home to three crazy brothers:-)
I think I will talk to the caseworker and give her my thoughts on why I want to pick up instead of having her brought here.

If you can't go physically I'd ask SW to get them to write down the information you need such as routines etc.
Maybe that's a possibility? Or get a contact there that can answer your questions over the phone.
Thanks for the idea. I did write up some questions for the caseworker in case we don't get to travel or talk to her caregivers. Still waiting for the official word that she is moving here... Last update said they were requesting a special hearing to move her here.
I think I would tell the caseworker your concerns for a "getting to know you period" and that you'd like to meet and talk to the care givers about her routine (routine not so important) more important is likes / dislikes and general personality. Her routine will change regardless but finding out the other things that only someone who's cared for a child can tell you is invaluable.

Got the news that the judge signed the order to move baby girl to us! DCFS has suggested that if I am willing and able that I come to TX to meet her, but then the caseworker would still fly back here with the baby and I to "ensure the baby is settling in" at our home. Seems like a waste to me, but whatever it takes to get the baby here!

That is so weird to me. In our case the state I lived in overseed our daughter. The CW from the other state did not. The case was just transferred here for supervision.

Our state will supervise after placement but apparently the sending state wants to see her safely in her new home before turning the case over to our state.

They must not trust your state? Ours didn't do this...they actually had us buy a plane ticket for her and us and we flew home with her. We then got our money back after he adoption for the travel expenses

I don't know. Texas tends to do their own thing in most issues. Plus this particular area dcfs has been under scrutiny for some issues so I think they are being hyper vigilant. ICPC happened pretty quickly.
It is standard for Texas to take FKs to out of state placements. Our adoption worker travels all over the Us placing kids, sometimes staying up to a week for difficult kiddos just to be sure it works out.

Mommyof3ks is it also standard to take WEEKS to actually make the move after the order?
In our transition we spent 3 weeks in the other state very close to the FP's and rented a townhouse (3 bdrs). I'm glad we were able to spend that much time instead of just picking her up and bringing her home. It gave the FP's time to see we weren't as bad as they thought and let us transition our daughter easier to us. It was also nice cause our eldest daughter (who was 13 at the time) was there too along with us during the transition.

I'm going to visit next week and again the following week but only because I asked and begged. I don't know how much it will help as I'm limited to an hour or two a day but it has to b better than nothing, right?
