Hi everyone I am new here, and new to this whole process. My family and I have a 11 yr old girl in our home, she is the half sister of my step son but of no relation to me or my husband. We are in the process of adopting her and so far we have completed the first ICPC to have her placed here and got licensed as foster parents, and now completed the adoption ICPC. We are just waiting for approval from the adoption committee and then we are good to go, we can do the adoption. Parental rights on both her mother and father have already been terminated (we are already almost 2 years into this case) and so now I am wondering what happens next. When we get the approval back from the adoption committee what do we do? And how long does it take to do the actual adoption? And does DCFS help you through the whole thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I have no experience with ICPC, however I can answer that yes, DCFS will walk you through the whole process. You will be assigned an adoption worker, and that person will lay out what they need from you, what you can expect from them, and you should get a timeline from now until adoption day. IME the redacted files hold things up, so if you get through that quickly, then it should just be a matter of getting a court date. How exciting!
