We got a letter from DCF asking if we wanted to pursue kinship placement for the son of an in-law. Nobody in the family knew he'd been in DCF custody since birth. He is under a year, drugs were involved and his mom is so very delusional.
The father's family has guardianship over the older sister. She's barely met her brother. The father is not doing enough to RU and the mom is doing nothing (but lying) so they are moving to TPR.
The FF is interested in adopting him but my husband's brother is too. Complicating things is that we live on the same property though in separate dwellings and that will be ending within a year when we buy a house. He has a live in girlfriend of a couple years, we are married with two young kids
When we discussed it with him, I said we'd support him either way but that his dog was dangerous. He has one on our state's restricted list for FPs. The dog is nice at times but extremely territorial of their doors. He snapped at my older son a few months ago and they are no longer allowed the limited contact they had with the dog as a result.
BIL and his mother insist the dog will get a waiver. Even without the snapping, he's still way too excitable.
We have the initial application but I'm waiting to hear back from the social worker to clarify two points.
In the meantime, mom went off on a trip while lying about where her kids were and came back posting heavily filtered photos of her with them to obscure the fact that she was in a visitation room. I don't seek her out on social media, her older sister told me all of this because she's frustrated with how mom is behaving.
Maybe y'all can help me. Our state (Massachusetts) has a section for health history. One part is for chronic conditions, the other is for current conditions. My husband has ADHD and GERD, both under control for years with medication. I wasn't sure if they needed things like lactose intolerance or seasonal allergies and where my husband's conditions would fall.
I've also left my most recent employer as of last month and will hear back on a new job next week. Should I just put the information of my previous employer as an employment reference with a note stating my employment dates?
The last question I had was about references. It says "2 for family" and I'm not sure if that means we need two total references or 2 family references and then more listed.
Thanks for all your help ;)
Sounds like a pretty complicated situation. I hope you can avoid too much conflict in your family about this, especially if you're living on the same property. However, this is likely unavoidable. Since you are already married with children, you would be the more likely candidate to be considered to adopt this child, regardless of the situation with the dog (which likely wouldn't help his case either).
As far as your application is concerned, I think it's always better to give more information rather than less. it won't hurt anything to include allergies and things like that. I would list the ADHD and GERD as chronic since they are ongoing issues. Listing them definitely won't exclude you from consideration.
Including a note about your employment dates should be fine, you can explain in further detail during your home study. The way it's worded about references isn't very clear, but I would recommend getting at least 2 from family and then as many others as you can get.
Keep us posted, and I hope things work out well for you!
