Does anyone else feel like they put out way more effort for holidays with their birth than their adoptive family? I haven't been on speaking terms with my adoptive parents for years, but even before that, we never did a whole lot for birthdays and such. Now that I have reunited with my birth family, I send everyone cards for birthdays. I don't do that with any of the family I grew up with. It feels almost like I am trying to make up for lost time, which I know isn't possible. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I feel like that's totally normal. I put a ton more thought and effort in to gifts and cards for my birth daughter and her family than I do for any of my immediate family, and more than my parents did for me. I know it's not exactly the same because I'm on the other side, but the making up for lost time totally makes sense.
