What are the pros and cons of changing an older child's name once you have adopted them? Do you feel that this causes an identity crisis, or gives them a fresh start with a name not connected to their rough past?
Out of my older children: 2 kept their first names, 1 changed his first and middle name and the youngest changed his first. It was totally up to them.

It makes sense to leave it up to them. At first I was a little iffy on the idea but then I remembered someone I know who was adopted by his step father. His middle name was after his biological father who had really hurt him, so he picked a new middle name when he was adopted. I think that was a positive thing for him.
