Hello all,
My partner and I are beginning our adoption journey. After much consideration, we decided to work with an adoption facilitation agency that is fairly well-regarded (they were recommended to us by two couples whom we know casually) and specializes in adoption for same-sex couples.
I am trying to learn everything I can about the next steps in the process. The organizatio told us, that once we're matched with a birth mom, we will then need to hire our own attorney and either an attorney in the birth mom's state or an agency in the state. We understand why we need to have our own lawyer, but we don't understand why we need a lawyer for the birth mom, and why sometimes (depending on the state) it is ok to use another agency. Can someone explain this? Also, is it easy to get an agency or attorney to represent a birth mom ? Is it expensive?
We appreciate your responses. We are new to adoption, and despite how knowledgeable we think we are, there are some areas that are completely confusing!
