Hi everyone just joined and looking forward to talking to everyone. I American living in Colombia and married to a Venezuelan. I want to adopt my 7 year old step daughter who was born in Venezuela obviously from her mother, my wife. My wife and I are residents of Colombia and our daughter is legally in Colombia on a student visa with us. We've been married for over 3 years and have another child jointly. My wife has full legal rights to our daughter. The father is out of the picture 100% legally.
I know Venezuela is a Hague Convention country, which means the adoption process must comply with the Hague Adoption Convention requirements. This involves working with a U.S. adoption agency accredited by the State Department even though I am living and a permanent resident of Colombia.
I'm just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience and can share with me any recommendations they might have. We have hired illegal firm here in Colombia to help us also but they don't have much experience with this exact case
