Any specific laws on adoption in Iowa? My husband and I waiting to adopt and what our agency has told us is that birth parents can't sign any form until three days after they have the baby, then they have four days to change their mind. After that the it is irrevocable. Then the adoption becomes finalized six months later, during that time the social workers will be checking in on how things are going. A good book to get is The Complete Adoption Book, it has all the specifics in it about independent adoption and expenses. Otherwise call a local adoption agency. Iowa now has an INS office in Des Moines that handles the internatioal adoptions instead of gong to Omaha.
