My question is:
I live in South Dakota, and I am not familiar with the laws concerning the amount of time after the birth of the baby, does she actually go to the adoptive parents? If the contracts are signed, and all parties agree to the adoption, doesn't the baby belong to the adoptive parents? I understand that there is a 6 month period that the adoption can be revoked, but I am concerned the baby will go home with the birthmother for a short period of time. Can anyone answer me??
Thank you!

Most babies go home with their adoptive parents from the hospital. Some adoptive parents attend/coach/help at the birth. A very bonding experience. Your answer is; for all the adoptions I have known of the baby goes home with the adoptive parents. Foster care can be a bit different depending on the particulars to assure that the necessary screening has been done. But with adoption the adoptive parents are the asumed parents until the birth mother indicates that she will parent within the alloted time frame. The birth mother has 6 months it sounds like from your post in the state that you are in to make a decision about her parental rights.
Hope this is of help to you. Your professionals should be really helpful to you on this.
Happy New year.
