Most state adoptions are relatively low-cost. In Texas, when you adopt through the state, it's about $1500 in legal fees, which the state reimburses. So it's basically free to adopt in Texas. Don't know about other states. If you use an agency, and are trying to adopt an infant, I understand that there can be some sizable fees involved - I've never done it myself. But if you adopt a child from the foster care system, you give that child a forever loving home, you are out little to no money for the process (so you have more to spend on your kids!!), and best of all, you get a precious child to love.
