We were told be several people who had friends/family in the military who were able to go on a waiting list for free in-vitro fertilization at military hospitals. Does anyone know about this? I can not seem to get any info. I called a couple bases here in Georgia and they all said they used to but no longer do. We are really excited about adopting but would also like to have a child also. Any inf would be great. Thanks!

Bethesda is a very good research facility!

Walter Reed Hospital in DC is one that performs Invitro, but it's not free. I was on the waiting list. It was pretty easy to get on, I made an appointment with the GYN here on Base, our biological son is an invitro baby so I didn't have to do any other test etc. I was on the waiting list last year, then we decited to go the adoption route instead. Last year the cost was about $4200 per cycle. That's not cheap, but a LOT cheaper than getting it done with a civilian specialist (I wish I had known about this when we were trying for our son) I hope this still helps. Good Luck with everything.
I guess it depends on whether you are in the military or not...The only airforce base that offers invitro is Lackland Airforce Base in Texas. They have a year waiting list ...I dont know of any for free. At lackland you have to pay $5,000 and thats basicly for the meds.Its still alot cheaper then civilian rates.Last time I knew it was harder for dependents to get on the waiting list. We are at the same crossroads on whether to adopt or go thru invitro. Invitro is such an emotional roaler coaster...I dont know!
