HELLO EVERYBODY,
I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I WAS ADOPTED BEING 2 YEARS OLD AT THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC IN THE YEAR 1972. I KNOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED A LOT, BUT ONE THING THAT DOES NOT CHANGE IS HONESTY. MY ADOPTIVE PARENTS NEVER HID FROM ME MY ADOPTION. SINCE I WAS ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THEY WOULD REPEAT TO ME WHERE I CAME FRON, WHY (MY FATHER WAS ALCOHOLIC, MY MOTHER DEALING WITH 10 OTHER CHILDREN, POOR, ETC). MY BOTH MOTHERS WROTE TO EACH OTHER, SENT PHOTOS. A THE AGE OF 7 I WENT TO MY FIRST VISIT TO KNOW MY BIOLOGICAL FAMILY. I FELT VERY HAPPY TO SEE THEM, TO SEE HOW THEY LOOKED LIKE ME, AND THIS NEVER MADE ME LOVE MY ADOPTIVE PARENTS OR SISTER LESS, INSTEAD I APPRECIATED HOW MUCH THEY GAVE ME, HOW I HAD THE CHANCE TO STUDY, BECOME A NURSE, AND NOW THAT I AM AN ADULT, I CAN HELP MY BIOLOGICAL FAMILY...WELL, THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE. ALSO I HAVE NOTED THAT ADOPTING IN THE U.S. IS KIND IF HARD, I KEEP HEARING OF BABYS BEING TAKEN AWAY AFTER THE ADOPTIVE PARENTS TRY SO HARD AND FALL IN LOVE WITH THE CHILD. FOR MY PARENTS IT WAS MAYBE BETTER TO ADOPT FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY.....
