We are adoptive parents and have 3 open adoptions with varying degrees of openness. We have enjoyed all our adoptions and wonder what challenges others have experienced in their open adoptions. Here are some of the challenges we have faced in the 20+ years we have parented.
1. the sheer amount of time it takes to keep in touch with so many families.
2. changes in birthfamily status...in the form of some cutting off contact, some moving away and divorces.
3. safety issues with one of the birthfamilies and having to set boundaries for the sake of our children.
4. sometimes wanting contact and not being able to have it due to birthfamily not wanting it.
5. being honest about our feelings with out having our kids feel responsible for us
