There is a couple that I know who "adopted" a little boy 2 years ago when he was 2 from his mom(through an adoption agency) as she was on drugs and had been abandoned by the boys' abusive father and did not know where he was. This couple has given this little boy an incredible life as well as giving him an older sister who is 12 now by the name of Mallory. They have been a model family attending church every Sunday and going on family trips together but most of all they have showered him with all the love and happiness any child could ever want.
Soon after they got Christopher, his biological father was located and he decided that he suddenly wanted to have him. There has been a legal battle ever since with the first ruling going to the adoptive parents. The biological father then decides to try again and now, this past Friday, 3 judges that have never laid eyes on the parents that have taken care of this child for the past 2 years decide to overturn the original ruling and award the little boy to the father.
This ruling took place in Kansas and the family lives in TX. They have 30 days to give him up and they are totally devastated. They have been advised by their attorney that they can appeal to the Supreme Court but probably wouldn't win and that Christopher probably wouldn't be able to stay with them during the appeal.
PLEASE, does anyone have any ideas. This family is so overwhelmed in grief that they can't even think about what to do at this point.
I would really appreciate the help of anyone out there as I feel so very helpless and so very disappointed in our Judicial System as they have decided to rip this child out of a loving home and send him to a stranger that abandoned him when he was born and abused his mother, even throwing her out of the house naked in the snow and locking the door. Is this the type of person that could ever provide a loving and happy home to a child?
