Hi! My husband and I are wanting to adopt a newborn-3 year old. Could anyone tell us how much help legal services will be on base and if you have any ideas on good agencies to go through? Like many military families, we would like to keep the cost low.
Thank you so much. Our email address is: armywife@mail2jamie.com
I know that I won't be of much help, but my wife and I are about to start the adoption process. I have made am appointement with the Staff Judge Advocate and they are going to help me start the process. I don't know if you have tried that to start out at. They told me that they would start it but then I would have to seek the assistance of a civilian attorney to finish the process. But they will help you find the right one to go to. That is the way that we are going about it for now. Might try that if you haven't already.

Hi,
I am a military wife of 3-bio kids and I am also a foster mom. I also work with kids that have developmential disibilities. If I were you I would just get a foster license and if in the future you want to adopt it will be a breeze. I say this from experience because I will finialize ours in a few months and get guardianship ove another child. I am in Wa. State and I love what I do. Feel free to contact me any time. And the cost to adopt is under 500.00 and you are also reinbursed all fees.
Howdy,
We're a military family (DH just RETIRED after 20 years 31 May, yipee!) who adopted our son through domestic parental placement. Legal services on base generally can't provide sevices to adopt non-related children (i.e. stepchildren), and in many commands can't do that either.
It's not a great idea anyway. I'd recommend getting an attorney who specializes in adoption, as they're most versed on the sometimes-confusing adoption statutes in your state. The American Academy of Adoption Attorneys keeps a member listing online at www.adoptionattorneys.com. Call at least 3 attorneys in your area and compare fees, services, and your comfort level.
HTH, please feel free to email tobeafamily2001@yahoo.com.

Hi,
I'ts me Soniya! We had our finialization date for our adoption on Dec. 15th. This was a real exciting day for our family. We had no problem at all. I am a current foster parent in the state of WA and I would be glad to help anyone interested in adoption threw private or state adoptions. I will offer all the support needed.
God Bless
Mrs. Soniya
Hi, we are also a military family who has adopted. We have two adotped kids through agency adoptions. We plan on adopting a third time in about two years. My first suggestion to you would be to decide what type of adoption you and your spouse are wanting to do. You can go international, you can go through the state, you can do an infant placement through an agency or attorney. I know cost is a big issue!!! We did both of our adoptions for what I would call low cost. If you want to go through an agency look for one that has a flat fee. They will give you that fee up front and that is ALL you are responsible for. Talk to members of your church community, if you go, and they are always more than willing to help out with donations. The second agency we went through had a loan program with a really low interest rate. Good luck to you and would love to help you more if you want it!!!!
Soniya, I also am a foster parent in WA!!! We have two great kiddos with us right now.

Hi Jamie,
My name is Rebekah. My husband and I are in the process of trying to adopt as well. We are using an agency in California. They are awesome!!!!!!! they are very selective on their birthparents as well as adoptive parents.
As far as the military goes. It is pretty simple. Once you have adopted your little one your husband will just add them to the DEERS program. The baby can be added to his life insurance everything.
If you have any questions please let me know I would be happy to help you in any way I can
Good LUck
Rebekah
Hi, My husband and I are currently living in Washington. He is in the Coast Guard. We are just allmost finished with our homestudy through the state. We have chosen to become a Foster Adopt home which is a little different from a regular foster home. We are a biracial family and have a 5 year old bio daughter. We hope in the near future to add another little angel to our home. Im just wondering how long we will be waiting. We know it might be awhile because we are looking for infant to 2 years. But we will keep crossing our fingers. We are very excited.
Hi we are stationed in CA and are going through the state to adopt. This cost of this adoption is nothing. You are required to tae a training course and then are signed up to foster/adopt. The state places a child into your home as a foster child first. This child is the child you will be adopting. This is a way to keep the children in one home until the adoption is finalized. The children placed in foster/adopt home are permiment placements and most the time have paced the point when their chance are less likely to return back to birth family. I have heard many positive stories about adoption through the state and would highly encourage you to contact your ;pcal social services department and attend an orientation to the state program and find out what they can do for you. The more specific you are on preferences the longer you may wait. the more open you are the faster. We are taking a sibling set with mild to moderate conditions. I wish you look and if you would like to email me feel free anytime. I can help as much as I can with your questions. I do also know the military has an amount that they allow you to get for adoptions but that is a reimbursement, you pay the cost up front. Also it might interest you to know until your adoption is finalized you do get an amount of subsidy from the state. You will find this information out at the time of your orientation. Call your local social services office to find out more information. We wish you lots of the luck.
