Hello----
I'm actually a little nervous about posting....some pretty hostile remarks from people in the adoption community.....
But I do have a question....
I understand how the adoption (10K) tax credit works. But in addition to that, my dh's employer has a program that refunds 5k after the completion of a successful adoption. When we recieved it, it was taxed, so we got like half of that. Is that separate from the 10 k tax credit, anyone else have any experience with this?
With all the hoops we had to jump through, and all the paperwork to get my son with us, you think I would be able to figure it out.
TIA,
Theresa:confused:
We went to H and R Block who filled out our forms. I also visited the IRS website which has all the forms that you can 'fill out' yourself....including all of the directions too. I went to the IRS site, simply so I could understand the tax credit better, etc.
Anyway, the form that is used to file the tax credit, also has a separate section for 'any amounts that you received from your employer because of the adoption'.
I understand your question, as it can be rather confusing. But, this particular form takes that amount into consideration....even though, as you stated, the amount was taxed.
I believe the adoption tax credit form is 8839.....though I may be wrong. Check the IRS website for sure......
Hope this helps....
Linny
