We are in Grand Island! Tori, hve you already adopted or are you still waiting??
Boxerx4--do you go to any of the "waiting support groups"?? We just went to one last month.
I agree, the waiting is really not going to be easy--to be honest I wouldn't be able to go longer than a year mentally. I think I would have to look at other options if we ended up with a long wait. The Children's Home is difficult in that the wait is not a set amount of time--you don't know if it will be three months or three years or more. We'll have to see how it goes. We are trying to do our own networking also because I would try for a directed adoption thru the Home if we could find a birthmother. I do think they offer very good counseling to the birthmothers.
Anyway, look forward to hearing more soon

Hi, We are still waiting. We have benn looking fr three years fostering for two and just got our butts in gear an really started being proactive in the past year. We have had a fewe near misses but no placements.. We are looking for a 0-12 month ols any race either sex so it's just a matter of timing! Good luck!
I just thought I would post quick since I saw other families here from Nebraska. We are in central NE. we have been fostering and trying to adopt for over 3 years now. We have had numerous placements that fell through and several foster children we would have loved to adopt but all went to relatives. We now have 2 foster girls who may become adoptable. If this doesn't work out we will probably quit. We've just been through too much and don't have the energy left. Well I just wanted to say hi to other Nebraskans and if any of you want to trade info sometimes I have made quite a few contacts in this time and love to help out others.
We just completed our home study in April and are waiting. I guess I was suprised to hear that many couples have been waiting for years. We are using NCH as well, and I can't even accept that it will take that long. Does anyone else have any input?

I am an amom in Omaha. It does seem like there are not a lot of people from Nebraska out there. I adopted my son 13 months ago. He is the light of my life. If anyone who is waiting to be a mommy needs to talk to someone who has already been through the adoption process, please PM me. Good luck to everyone. I hope that your waits are quick.
Hi all in Ne. Just thought I would update! It has been so long we did adopt our son through A Labor of Love and he is almost 15 months and so much fun! Don't give up and if any one has questions please feel free to ask. My biggest asset was just jumping in and following every lead I could find! We had to travel to Oklahoma but the trip was well worth it!
God Bless,
Homemom
Hi all, I'm in Chadron NE way up in the NW corner. I'm a single man age 45 trying to adopt and not having much luck, completed my homestudy in April of '04 and still surfing the net trying to find any means available out there. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open.
There is sooo much info on the web that it can be overwhelming. What type of adoption are you seeking? I know that there are several agencies that need foster-adopt parents.

Hello to you as well. Yes I have visited this site last in May, and just came back to it this week. I'm with you--where is everybody from NE??
Anywho, we have been reviewing the adoption process for about a year. We just recently completed the foster parent training, and have decided to go that route for awhile. We have decided that maybe this is what God wants us to do-either indefinately or at least for awhile. Maybe an adoption will come out of this as well. We are also starting to actively watch the state website.
Hi there--
We just completed our foster training through HHS and are ALMOST licensed. I would say within the next month I hope. Can you give me a list of those agencies that you know of that foster-adopt? Thanks
Deana

Deana--your story is soo sad. I feel for you. My heart goes out to you. Hopefully, I won't need words of encouragement from you three years from now.
You know, we just completed foster training. They tell us that there is like a 5:1 ratio in Nebraska for kids:foster homes. And yet, those of us that want to adopt these little critters are on these HUGE waiting lists. Sob, sob, sob.

My dh and I are currently finishing up our homestudy with Nebraska Childrens. Anyone else working with them? We are in Southwestern Nebraska, too, by the way.
Our family is just beginning to think seriously about this. We live in Ogallala and want to adopt from Poland. Anybody else around done this internationally? Any advice about agencies or homestudies would be very helpful.
thanks.
