Hi all. We are taking the little AA baby girl who was born exposed to cocaine and possibly alcohol. It was a hard decision for me, but my husband was so in love and thinks things will work out for the best, even though there is a chance she could have problems (I'm mainly worried about the alcohol) and the dad could take her eventually if he shapes up.
It turns out the mom has depression and nothing more serious, thank goodness. We have dealt with depression in our own boys and while it's not fun it is something we were able to get through.
We get to bring her to our home tomorrow for a visit and then if we don't have her for good by Sat. we are having her for a visit that day too.
Thanks, Kathy

Well, the baby is now fine. The doctors think a blood vessel in the baby's nose or throat burst or was weakened from the baby spitting up and it coming out her nose so much which caused the bleeding. She didn't have to spend the night in the hosp. But, our SW decided to cancel our visits, which surprised the foster parents. They said,, too, that we can't have her in our home or least 2 weeks so that they can make sure she is all right. Well, she has a follow-up appointment on Friday and they should know about the HIV test then too, according to the foster mom. I asked our SW what else is there to find out? It's not like they have any other tests or appts. scheduled or anything. A couple of the social workes on the case are on vacation next week and I think this is for THEIR convenience. They won't even let us take her out of the foster home on Saturday IF we get our visit still, saying she should be in her home environment. If that's her home, then maybe she should stay there. She's just going to bond further with the foster mom and it'll be harder on us.
I'm just really upset and don't understand these people.

Hi again. I went with the foster mom of "our" baby to an appt. yesterday because the night before she'd had a little more blood come out (just about a tsp) and the doctor looked in her nose and mouth but couldn't see anything unusual and just said so switch forumulas. She had gained weight though and weighs 6 lbs. 15 oz now!
Today, however, was another appt. with the baby's regular ped. and although I never did get a call from the foster mom yet, the social worker called and said there is an abnormality with the baby's bloodwork from the night she was at the hosp. and so they are doing more tests on her. She wants us now to stop visitation. My husband wasn't sure if she means that we aren't going to be able to have her at our home (they had already cancelled that because of the bleeding) or just stop seeing her at all. I was so mad and frustrated! I guess the don't want us to get too attached in case there is something wrong and we don't adopt her. :( too late, we are attached. I think the only way I wouldn't take her is if she has AIDS. maybe it's Hep B. I don't know much about that. I'll have to do a littl research. Am waiting for the foster mom to call. I have left her 2 messages now. She probably doesn't want to tell us the news.
