Female born to young mother on April 3, 1982 at Delnor Hospital in St. Charles Illinois. Adopted 3 days later. I think the adoption was done thru a lawyers office, but I'm not positive.

How does that work? Do I just call? Or do I need an attorney?
Oh and good news! I just got a letter from the IARMIE saying my name has been placed in the database, and I found out my birthmother was 16. And they gave me my birthdate off the original birth certificate, and its the same as my current one, so no funky stuff going on there or anything.
So anyways still looking! And still hopeful!

To my knowledge, you do not need an attorney, you can just call. They will open your file and locate your birth parents and ask whether they would like contact. If they say yes, the contact will be arranged. If they say no, they will not give you any identifying information. Personally, I wish all states had a method like this. It makes the search for easier and makes it easier for those of us who worry about finding someone who doesn't want to be found.
Good Luck!
Okay so I was going to try the intermediary thing, I had my money, I went to court, and the stupid judge told me that he wasn't going to appoint me an intermediary, and that I should call and talk to all of them and find one that I felt I could get along with, and make a new court date. Well, stuff came up and I don't have the money any more.
So I'm still searching. I'm beginning to lose hope though. I keep hoping that my ** or bf are out there looking, but sometimes I feel like they aren't. And that I don't even pass through their minds at all. :(
So still looking, for now...
It was in July of '04. I know he was supposed to, but when I went in there, I guess he had only done 1 before me, and I guess she had called the intermediaries and found one she liked before she went in, and he was confused and thought that's what I should have done and said come back when you have found one that you feel you will work best with. And I wasn't about to argue with a judge. He was kind of rude.
And then I became broke lol.

I have not been on for awhile and so just saw your posting. What county did you approach with your petition? Also, even though it is not known widely, the fees charged by the CI program can be prorated based on your financial need. There should be no charge to file the petition you only have to pay their program for their services. Call the supervisor at the IL Adoption Registry and talk to her she will do her best to help you and direct you. Good Luck
I think it was suggested earlier in the thread, but you should really contact Midwest Adoption Center and they will walk you through the steps to get started as far as petitioning the court for a CI - they are most helpful and once a CI (confidential intermediary) is appointed, they will have access to your records and can do a search. Fee is very reasonable!
