Stewart Whyte McEwan Jones and Adoption

(Redirected from Stewart Whyte McEwan Jones)

Biography

Jones was born to an unmarried school teacher in Scotland before World War II. She could not keep him and he was adopted by an elderly single woman who had had a nervous breakdown, as part of her therapy. When her condition improved he became surplus to requirements and he was adopted again, by a Scottish-Welsh couple who moved to North Wales, where he grew up as a Welsh-speaking boy.

When he was 15 his birth parents traced him. They were now married and he was given the choice of living with them or staying with his now-widowed adoptive father. He chose to remain with his father.

He is most famous for his creation of the comic character Ifas y Tryc (Evans the Truck), a henpecked village carrier-hauler.

His life story was the subject of a British television channel S4C documentary.
