Pregnancy is an exciting time for any woman. Your body is changing, your baby is growing and developing, and you are preparing for the most rewarding experience of your life. Here is a weekly pregnancy calendar to the changes that you will experience in your second trimester, as well as how your baby is developing each week.
The second trimester includes Weeks 14-26. By this time you will most likely need maternity clothes depending on your body type before you became pregnant. You will probably also be able to find out the sex of your baby. Enjoy your second trimester pregnancy calendar!
By now you should be starting to grow more comfortable with your pregnancy. If you had any morning sickness, it should be subsiding and you may regain your appetite. You may start needing maternity clothes. Your baby is approximately 3-4 inches long. Baby's eyes and ears are positioning themselves in the right places and the neck is getting longer.
Your baby is about 4-4.5 inches long by now and weighs around 1.75 oz. Baby's skin is still very thin right now and is covered in fine hair called lanugo hair. The baby's bones are getting harder and are retaining calcium.
You can probably feel your uterus about 3 inches below your belly button. You should have a triple-screen or quad-screen test now, which tests for Down syndrome or spina bifida in the baby. You may begin to feel baby move, although it will most likely feel like a fluttering or bubbling.
You have probably gained about 5-10 pounds by now. Just remember that some of that is your uterus and amniotic fluid. Your baby is about the size of your open wide hand. Fat is beginning to form in the baby this week, which is important to the body's metabolism and heat production.
You may be experiencing some back pain or changes in your joints. Be sure to eat healthy, and continue to exercise to keep your mobility. Your baby is about 5 to 5.6 inches in length. The baby's circulatory system is now fully developed.
By this time you should have gained between 8 to 14 pounds. If you have become anemic, you may become dizzy occasionally. Be sure to have your blood checked regularly. Your baby is almost 6 inches in length.
Congrats! You have reached the halfway mark of your pregnancy. Your health care provider will probably begin to measure your uterus now by measuring from your pubic bone to your belly button. This allows the provider to keep an eye on your baby's growth. Your baby weighs about 9 oz at this point. Baby's skin begins to form two layers of skin, the epidermis and the dermis. Vernix which is a white substance that protects baby's skin from the amniotic fluid, is being produced.
By this time you want to make sure that you keep active in order to prevent blood clots in the legs. You should have gained about 10 to 15 pounds. Your baby is now about the size of a large banana. The baby's digestive system is now functioning.
You should be feeling quite good now and hopefully able to fully enjoy being pregnant. Your baby now weighs about 12.25 oz. Eyelids and eyebrows are now fully developed. You can also see the fingernails. Organ systems are preparing for their specific functions.
You should have a total weight gain of 12 to 15 pounds by now. You will probably be tested for gestational diabetes around this time. Your baby is approximately the size of a small doll. The baby's pancreas is developing and the lanugo hair darkens.
Your baby weighs just over a pound now. The face and body are beginning to look more like s/he will at birth. Baby can hear sounds that are outside of the womb.
The top of your uterus is approximately halfway between your belly button and sternum. Your baby is almost 9 inches long and weighs about 1.5 pounds.
You have probably gained about 16 to 22 pounds by now. Your baby weighs almost 2 pounds. You have reached the end of the second trimester!
This pregnancy calendar for your second trimester should be used as a guide and should not substitute a health care provider's care.
