Mercedes Ruehl was born on February 28, 1948 in Queens, New York.
Ruehl won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Fisher King (1991).
She has 5 children from first marriage to Ed Ruehl (4 sons, 1 daughter). She is the mother of Roxy DiCamillo.
As a young woman, Ruehl had given birth to a son and reluctantly placed him for adoption because she didn’t have “the emotional development or the economic capability” to raise him.
