Hi Everyone:
There are quite a number of pre-schools. They vary in their philosophies.
Did you choose a pre-school that was structured for your child? And why?
Did you choose a pre-school where you child would attend with a friend? And why?
Did you choose a pre-school that had a smaller than state required adult child ratio? (Did anyone find one of these?)
Did you choose a pre-school that would feed into the grade school that you wish your child to attend?
Did you choose a pre-school that had a gymnastics or other physical type activity or program?
Did you choose a pre-school that had the same religious beliefs that you and your family has?
Did you choose a pre-school because they offered a 1/2 day verses full day program?
Did you choose a pre-school for another reason? What were the reasons?
How is your little one doing so far in his or her pre-school?
Would you like tips on helping them to transition? Please post. We have a wonderful expert that would be happy to assist you.
Warm regards to each of you and your families,
Hi Sabra!
Last year we did the Co-op thing. Not again at least for awhile. Lots of work and the tuition was just as high as if I'd sent him to our local district.
This year he's not in preschool; exactly. We put him in a homeschool program that meets once a week, because we got bumped off the waiting list for our district preschool.
I have a question that I was wondering if you could answer. We were bumped of the list for a program that would be perfect for ds, and I was just told by a psychologist that they will have to take him under article 504. The psychologist plans to certify him ADHD, and because of that he qualifies for acceptance under 504.
Is this article 504 a national thing? Does it get him into a reg. preschool setting? Do you have to pay tuition for it? Does the school Dist. have to leave a set # of slots open for 504 students?
I'm thinking I should call the school psychologist and her ask her these questions, but since I saw your post I thought I'd see if someone else could answer before I "have" to make that call.
Thanks to anyone who can help us out! We were not bumped from the tuition based program, only the "at risk" or enrichment program.

Hi DKIM:
Thanks for your question. Sounds like you are doing a good job of early intervention. Good for you and your dear son.
There are different types of pre-schools where the required attention span varies. Have you seen any programs that are kinestic based where fine motor is optional?
If others do not come on Dr. Art will likely be able to give you some input regarding his experience with 504. It may depend on the pre-school if there is a portion of tuition due to you.
Does anyone have experience with pre-schools under 504? Please post so that DKIM may have some input from your experiences.
Thanks very much.
We did preschool when 1st DD was 3. We only did it for half a year. We then started homeschooling. We now have 3 children oldest 6 and we are homeschooling 100%. It works best for us. We are in a support group and a parent run type of co-op.
Hi Gr8ful4MyFamily:
For those families that are interested in home schooling for pre-school that is a great option!
Do you use a curriculum or ? to teach, play, interact with your children and other children from the co-op?
If you have a minute and could post the type of schedule you have for the pre-school type of home schooling that you do it would be awesome to have you post how your go about your morning.
How many hours a day/week do you find works? Do you include field trips or exercise at the park?
What do you try to cover? What is your mix of girls and boys?
Thanks so much for your sharing. Also, I love your username. :)
Warm regards,
