Adoption leave benefits

I'm about to go and pick-up my 5 and a half year old son in Bulgaria.

I've applied for adoption leave from my employer. They had never envisaged adoption leave in their rules and regulations. I need to explain to them why time off after the child arrives is crucial to build a bond and develop attachment. Apparently, they need convincing (!).

Would suitable articles on the matter be available ? I would be most most grateful for any help.
