I received advertising from a facilitator in Ohio. A friend thought facilitators in Ohio are illegal. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this. The business is called "Small Blessings".

I don't know about every state, but our attorney said that with a referal service such as Small Blessings we would be ok since the fees are so low and all they really do is the networking for you. After that, it is all done by your agency or lawyer. He said we can consider it advertising fees basically that is what she is doing. That plus initial screening. After the match, she steps out. We pay all expenses through our attorney and not the referal service.

We have been signed up with Small Blessings for about 13 months. We have been presented to birthmoms several times but never chosen. I am curious how many people have been matched with a birthmom, since I have never met anyone via email who has.
Basically, the fees they charge are for advertising; that's about it. I must say that the fees have gone up somewhat since we signed on with them, but I think that the fee is still reasonable.

Have you checked the AdoptOHIO web page?? Seems that Ohio has lots of children that are adoptable at little or no cost. Worth checking out... I'm in Texas and was VERY impressed with their site!

AdoptOhio's page may be full of kids, but note that if you scroll to the bottom of the description, most of the kids are already "spoken for", either by their foster parents or a relative. Ohio law requires each child who is technically free for adoption via TPR to be listed on the site, even if they are already earmarked for adoption. They don't seem to update the site very often either.

Unfortuantley, AdoptOhio is not updated, almost all younger children on the site have already been placed.
I am an adoption worker in Ohio so I know the system her extremly well.

We sent her several of our profiles, were assured that ours was submitted to multiple situation - many more cases than the profiles we had sent. She stopped responding after we began asking questions. Not one of us on the list has ever heard of a "successful" placement, and she did not give references in 1999-2000.
