We are looking into international adoption (we live in Florida) and have been concentrating on E.Europe areas. I'd like to hear from those who have adopted from Latvia about their experiences, costs, etc. We will be seeking 2 or 3 sibs (at least one girl) with a strong preference toward the 3-8 age group. We have 5 bio-children (actually, one is a young adult) but feel that God is leading us to adopt now.
I have posted in the past. We independently adopted from LV in Oct 03 4 sibs. I stayed in LV almost 3 mos but could have come home and process would have been same(however it worked in our favor with my relationship with the children who are older especially). You cannot go there with a bad attitude-- like you are doing them a favor. It will not work! They are wonderful people with a very hard situation.
There are orphanage directors willing to work with you. It is imperative that you have their help. They are the ones who help things move along in court.
The children were wonderful--a few had FAS/FAE but not most. Many just have bad situations to overcome.
Feel free to email me privately.
