Still trying to find my niece. I just learned GA allows birthdates to be changed. Nothing like making life more difficult. My niece was born on October 29, 1969, in Columbus GA. The adoption was private...arranged through the doctor. She was born "Baby Girl Hanscom"...and more than likely has blonde hair and blue eyes as my sisters other daughter (deceased @ 7yo) had. IF you born anywhere around that time (or you think you were)..you may be her. I would LOVE to find you. There are medical reasons you should contact us. If you do not want any other contact...that's ok too.

I worked in the clerk's office in the superior courts in Georgia for YEARS and it is an urban myth that birthdates were routinely changed. This is simply not true. Before computers, sometimes a birthmother would check into a hospital on one day and give birth after midnight and the date that she checked in might be on the birth certificate but TRUST ME, the Superior Court judges do not allow birthdates to be changed. This myth got started by some group who found a statute in Ga. which allowed a person to amend their birth certificate up to a year if the date was wrong by using family bibles, etc. Somehow, this got translated into the myth that in Georgia, birthdates can be changed by adoptive parents at will. The only thing changed on an amended certificate is the parents' names, county of birth is listed as county of adoption and that is it. I have seen many amended birth certificates and have been in many adoption hearings in superior court and this is not true.
