Ok, This is the first time I have ever done this. My son who we adopted is 7 yrs old and in first grade. He has been through kindergarten twice and the school is talking about holding him back in first too. He is a very sweet boy but, has a few issues. I know that the first three years of his life were VERY tramatic. Has anyone had a child that just can't seem to put everything together in school. We can work on everything the night before a test and he knows it but, once he gets to school he is blank. They are testing him now for learning disablities and so we should know what they suggest. I would just like some information from people who have been through it.
Thanks!
I am an elementary teacher who teaches students with the service delivery of Mild Cognitive Impairment (also known as high functioning mental retardation). Some of my students are just below the "learning disabilities" category, hence they are in my class. They are fully functional in social settings, yet they cannot seem to master all of grade level material involving reading, math, and writing (and are a grade or two behind their grade level peers in those areas).
Perhaps that could be a consideration. Good Luck
