Has anyone taken advantage of this registry in IL? I am in the process of going through the paper work and wanted to get some input from others that have done the same. If I understand correctly if you fill out the medical information the $40 registration fee is waived. I was wondering if there is anyone who has found an adopted child/ birth parent through this registry and if they would share their stories. Thank you in advance for any input.

New Question:
I know she was adopted out of an orphanage in East St. Louis. Anyone know the names of any orphanages there around 1954?
Also found out that she was part Native American but not sure which parent that was from. Any ideas on laws for searching Native American adoptess?
Thanks again
Wendy

Well, not to be the bearer of bad news, but I registered for myself as an adoptee, and myself as a birthmom. My son has found me, and after talking with him, finding out that he too registered, and I have been on the registry for about 6 years.... neither of us has ever gotten a reply from the state of IL. We have been in reunion for almost 2 years now. Still nothing for either of us. If makes my lose hope that I will ever find my birth family.Kathy

Can anyone help. I am looking for a sibling. I have registered with the ISRR and the Illinois Medical Information Registry. They have told me that there is no match at this time. My fear is that I have incomplete information. I am not sure of the date of birth of my sister. My mother is deceased and she dropped pieces of information to myself and my other siblings thru the years. I have tried to talk to family members to dig out information but so far I am coming up empty. She was adopted at birth. I don't know if it was thru an adoption agency or a private adoption.
I registered with the Illinois registry several weeks ago and received a response days later. I was amazed at how quickly they responded but also dissapointed with the amount of non-id info they gave me. My birth family was not registered and they gave me the ages of my birth parents and my date and hospital of birth. That was it. My next step is petitioning the Court. Have the petition ready to go!

you could try Catholic Charities because they are one of the biggest in the Chicago area. If they don't have a file on your mother. They should tell you that for free. If they don't, then you scratch that agencey off the list. Was your mom sent away to give birth? What all do you know? Needles can be found. Just takes time.
I have tried Lutheran Social Services. They didn't have anything on my mother. I know that she was born at Augustana Hospital. My mother called her Sally. She was born in August 1953. My parents were married. Why they chose to give her up I don't know. There were 4 older siblings at the time and they had more children after her. IARMIE didn't have any information for me. They have my information on file now and that is it. I have registered with ISRR but that is a dead end as well. What I have been told is that if she isn't looking, odds are I won't find her.

mblum, The IL registry is a great place to start but it's only good if the person you're looking for has also registered. If you don't get any information, you'll have to go a different route, which could mean having to pay for assistance (e.g. getting a confidential intermediary). john Here are some links to websites that you might find helpful. I sure did!! The IARMIE website - Register right now if you have not already!! You cannot petition for a CI without registering first. You'll find the forms link in the middle of the page. If you have any questions, just call the office. And though they are vey busy, they are extremely nice and helpful. ;) http://www.idph.state.il.us/vital/adoptbroch.htm The Confidential Intermediary Service website for information on petitioning for a Confidential Intermediary (CI). Don't use their forms though. See the link below. http://www.ci-illinois.org/ The link to the Cook County Court adoption forms webpage is where you'll find the forms needed to file a petition for a CI along with instructions on how to fill out the form and the legal document describing the Illinois Law about the CI program. They're under the Access to Adoption Records at the bottom of the page.http://www.cookcountycourt.org/divi.../adoptions.html The link to the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. This is where you'll need to drop off your petition (Daley Center - Room 1202). If you want to schedule your hearing the same day, they will send you to Room 1701, which is the Judge's office. The office is open 8:30-4 M-F except for the court holidays listed on this site. Use this site only for address and phone number information. This is the only place where you can bring or mail your petition in Cook County. One word of advice, when you go there, be patient!!
